"happy" age home

last week i visited a old ("happy")age home through initiative taken by my college's Social Responsibility Team. "gokuldham aashram" is a really well maintained place near Hinjewadi, Pune.

it was a unique experience. i was little gloom going there thinking all these long faces. generally we associate old age home with the deprived old people who's good for nothing children have just dumped them out of sight.

most of these premises did come true.

but i don't like to sympathize with old, underprivileged or handicaps because it does not help them a one bit. if you treat them with overt affection then it will make them weak. they want a treatment of an equal. some one to give them a chance. just like Seabiscuit after whom i have named this blog. he just required to be considered without prejudiced as well.

also one another thing struck me that we always paint the picture of bad kids. who left their parents in lurches and curse them may be. but rarely people consider the fact that parents might not have been angels them selves. who knows? but we are certainly prejudiced.

this made me think something really sad when i was leaving the place. I don't want to grow old with or without kids. i have seen my grand parents. My grandmother was bed ridden for he last few years and she herself was not happy with the situation.

to end with the happy note. we did had a great time there. we sang, played thumbola (or housie). they really liked it. hope to see them again and have great time.

this encounter made me resolve to become a pen friend of one of the "happy" friend of mine. "Happy" age home is really a place where happiness is present in the form of people in similar conditions form extraordinary bonds and get on with it.
